Identifying hotspots of plant invasion in India

Understanding the potential distribution of invasive alien plants in India under present and future climate conditions is necessary for prioritizing invasion hotspots, implementing EDRR for new invasions, and developing a robust policy framework. In this study, we aim to identify areas that are climatically suitable for the establishment and spread of the invasive aliens present in ILORA through environmental niche models (ENMs).

Functional trait data

ILORA version 1.0 currently holds life form, duration and type of alien plant species. We are working to add information of three functional traits, namely the specific leaf area (SLA), maximum height and seed weight, following the leaf-height-seed scheme (Westoby 1998), of these species. The resources of this information are published literature records, books/book chapters, and authentic online resources. We are near completion of curating this information for three categories of aliens - invasive, naturalized and casual. We welcome submission of functional trait information from the community (for details, please contact any of the core team members) and form a team of contributors for the next version of the database.
